Kara John-Baptiste
Kara John-Baptiste is a first generation Canadian with musical and cultural roots in Trinidad and Tobago. A disciplined artist, she entered the world of Dance at age three (3) at the Ottawa School of Dance. Later studying at the Elaine Hunter Dance School where at the age of six (6), was chosen to join the competitive dance team. Since then she has participated in international dance competitions in Quebec City, Ottawa, and Toronto.
Trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Afro-Caribbean Dance beat that is mixed with the three-step salsa, Soca, and Calypso Rhythms.
Kara John-Baptiste mesmerised audiences across Canada, and the United States where she performed as a dancer for three (3) years with the Ottawa based, Culture Shock Canada, further strengthening her skills and knowledge of urban dance culture.
Now a choreographer and dance instructor with the DanceR Studio, Orleans, Kara teaches children as young as 5 and youth for entry into the competitive dance programs.
By embracing all the dance styles into her teaching, she imbues a sense of confidence and Joie de vivre or an exultation of the spirit, within her students.
Her Performances
As part of her commitment to community through Dance, Kara has performed over the years to audiences made up of Country Representatives, National and International Leaders at annual and other community events such as:
- Canada Day on Parliament Hill and Majors Hill Park
- Black History Month on Parliament Hill
- Fallingbrook Fair
- As Back up dancer for up-and-coming singers
- Weddings
- Local associations and charity events
